Van Mahotsav 2026

As part of the Aster Green Choices initiative, Van Mahotsav 2026, a week-long environmental conservation campaign, was successfully organized by Aster Volunteers of Dr. Moopen’s Medical College from July 1 to July 7, 2026, in association with Dr. Moopen’s Nursing College (NSS, SNA, and Nature Club), the Kerala Forest & Social Forestry Department, and the Mananthavady Block Haritha Samithi.

As part of the program, a sapling plantation and distribution drive was organized on the banks of the holy river Papanashini at Nettara Gramam, near Thirunelly Temple. The program was inaugurated by Mrs. Sajitha Unnikrishnan, Thirunelli LSGD Member, in the presence of Prof. Lida Antony, Principal, Prof. Ramu Devi, Vice Principal of Dr. Moopen’s Nursing College, Mr. Jayesh, Deputy Forest Range Officer, Appapara Division, Mr. T.C. Joseph, Chairman, Social Forestry Division, Mrs. Louly Augustine, Retired Deputy Agriculture Director, and other esteemed dignitaries.

The initiative aimed to promote environmental sustainability, increase green cover, and encourage community participation in ecological conservation. Throughout the week, volunteers, students, faculty members, and community representatives actively participated in sapling planting and seed ball throwing activities across various locations in Wayanad.

The campaign witnessed enthusiastic participation from Aster Volunteers, NSS volunteers, students of Dr. Moopen’s Nursing College, and representatives from the LSGD, Forest Department, and Kudumbashree. This collective effort highlighted our shared responsibility to protect the environment and preserve nature for future generations.

Together, we are sowing the seeds of a greener tomorrow and inspiring communities to become stewards of the environment.
