World Blood Donor’s Day 2025 – Event Report
On the occasion of World Blood Donors Day 2025, Aster Volunteers of Dr. Moopen’s Medical College, in association with the Department of Transfusion Medicine and Dr. Moopen’s Nursing College, organized a series of impactful programs aimed at promoting voluntary blood donation and recognizing the heroes who make it possible. The event was themed “Drops of Hope – Give blood, Give hope: Together we save lives!” and witnessed active participation from students, faculty, and hospital staff.
The event was officially inaugurated by Dr. Manoj Narayanan, Medical Superintendent of Dr. Moopen’s Medical College, by honoring one of the most committed blood donors—Dr. Vinod Prem Singh, HOD of General Surgery—who has donated blood 82 times. The inauguration took place in the esteemed presence of Vice Principal Dr. Prabhu, Additional Medical Superintendents Dr. Elizabeth Joseph and Dr. Arun Aravind, DGM – Administration Mr. Soopy Kallungodan, DGM – Operations Dr. Shanavas Palliyal, Finance Head Mr. Usman, HR Head Mrs. Sangeetha Susan, Medical Officer of the Department of Transfusion Medicine Dr. Girija C, Associate Professor of Pathology Dr. Nabeel Azeez, Chief Nursing Officer Mr. Gireesh Unnikrishnan, Nursing College Lecturer Mrs. Vineetha, and Blood Center Manager Mr. Robin Baby.
The day’s programs included a well-coordinated blood donation drive, a poster competition open to medical, nursing, and pharmacy students, a public awareness talk on the importance of voluntary blood donation, and a flash mob performance by medical students, which added a lively and engaging dimension to the event. A blood grouping camp was also held, allowing participants to know their blood types and encouraging them to become registered donors. One of the key highlights was the honoring of blood warriors—regular and committed donors—who were recognized for their invaluable contributions to saving lives.
The celebration was a resounding success, fostering a deeper understanding of the life-saving impact of blood donation and strengthening the culture of voluntary service within the institution. The collaborative spirit of Aster Volunteers, the Department of Transfusion Medicine, and the unwavering support from the faculty and hospital administration played a vital role in making the event meaningful and memorable.
A big thank you to our beloved Executive Trustee, Mr. U. Basheer, for his constant support and guidance, which were instrumental in the successful conduct of the program.
