Anesthesiology can broadly be considered as a branch of medicine that involves the administration of medicines to produce a state in which the patient does not feel the pain of various procedures. However the practice of anaesthesia is no longer limited to the operating room nor even confined to rendering patients insensible to pain. The scope of modern anesthesia practice includes preoperative evaluation and preparation; intraprocedural care; postoperative care including acute pain management; critical care, resuscitation and retrieval; chronic pain management; and palliative care.
Dept. of Anaesthesiology, Dr. Moopen’s Medical College caters to all the necessary requirements which are to be addressed by an anaesthesiologist. Faculty have an expertise in handling all types of high risk cases in all age groups. Apart from the efficient perioperative care that is being delivered by the department, faculty also takes part in teaching of cardiac and pulmonary resuscitation, conduct clinical & basic science research. Faculty also supervises, teach and evaluate the performance of both medical & Paramedical personnel involved in perioperative care. Department runs a full-fledged pain clinic where the patients with acute, chronic and cancer pain are managed efficiently through pharmaco therapy and advanced interventional techniques. Our Department has faculty trained in critical care, regional anaesthesia & pain medicine. Faculty also have administrative skills and takes active participation in institutional organization.
