The research expertise and focus of the R&I unit covers 3D Bio Printing of Tissues & Organs, Regenerative Medicine & Tissue Engineering – Stem Cells / Bio Materials, In Vitro Diagnostics (IVD), Immuno-therapeutics, Recombinant Therapeutics, Biomedical Devices, Nanomaterials Polymer synthesis / scaffold preparation, Hydrogels and Wound care materials. The unit also collaborates with other departments of the medical college such as Microbiology, Biochemistry, Physiology, Pharmacology, Pathology, Virology etc and undertakes basic research in Cell & Molecular Biology, Molecular Endocrinology and Genomics to understand the real mechanisms behind chronic diseases like Diabetes Mellitus, Cancer, Cardiac Diseases and diseases prevalent in the local population like – β thalassemia, Sickle Cell Anemia, Oral Cancers and Kyasanur forest disease to develop innovative solutions.

The research projects focused in Healthcare & Medicine has definite objectives as:

  • Identify ‘unmet clinical needs’ and develop innovative solutions to address them.
  • Leverage scientific research using advanced biomedical technologies to find solutions for diseases causing significant morbidity and mortality.
  • Community based healthcare innovation to develop cutting edge treatment strategies for diseases prevalent in the local population.
  • Conduct advanced research in areas of fundamental science, the immediate beneficiary of which will be the patient community.
  • Instill an element of research and intellectual curiosity into the minds of young medical graduates.
